Subaru Warning Lights
There are many different warning lights on your vehicle. Warning lights are simply your vehicle's way of letting you know that something is wrong. While we think of a warning light being bad, the most common warning lights are the ones that tell you that your door is open or that your car needs gas. Warning lights are divided into two types of severity: yellow and red. Red ones are the more serious of the two, and demands immediate attention. An explanation of each warning light can be found in your owner's manual.
There is one light that has no set meaning though: the Check Engine Light. The check engine light actually has several possible explanations; it is your car's all-purpose way of telling you that something is wrong. It is actually impossible to tell what the problem is by the light alone. A mechanic will plug a reader into your car's onboard computer, which will show what the problem is. Some problems are easy to fix. The easiest-to-fix problem is a loose gas cap. If your check engine light is on, try tightening your gas cap to see if that fixes it. Other problems can be a bit harder to fix by yourself, such as your catalytic converter needs a replacement. If the light is steady, you should take it to a mechanic. If the light is flashing, there is a serious problem, and you should take it to a mechanic immediately.
